Jan. 22, 2025
Dear Greater Johnstown School District community,
As you may be aware, Dr. William Crankshaw has announced that he will retire as Superintendent of Schools, effective August 9, 2025.
On January 16, the Johnstown Board of Education appointed me to serve as the search consultant to assist with the selection of your next superintendent of schools. I look forward to working with your school community to help your board gather information that informs their effort to clarify the key traits, competencies, and experiences that the next Johnstown superintendent should possess.
As we move forward with the search, our team at HFM BOCES will create recruitment materials and assist your board of education with the development of selection criteria and the process for interviews.
Community and stakeholder input will be sought as a key part of the effort to develop the ideal candidate profile. Members of the Johnstown community are being asked to complete an online survey that seeks feedback regarding the district, as well as the characteristics and personal attributes desired in the next superintendent. The survey, which will be available from Wednesday, January 22 through Wednesday, February 5, may be accessed here:
https://www.hfmboces.org/JohnstownSurvey/
Participation of faculty, staff, families and community members is welcome and encouraged.
Concurrent to the search, I will meet with stakeholder focus groups to gather more detailed information to inform our candidate profile. A team from our BOCES that includes myself and our communications professionals will visit your district several times in the coming weeks to conduct these focus group discussions. The board of education’s goal is to have a new superintendent in place by August.
Sincerely,
David Ziskin, Ed.D.
Supervisory District Superintendent
