Callery, Morreale, and Solar named ABCD Award Recipients

Congratulations to our first ABCD Award recipients of the 2024-2025 school year, who were recognized at the District’s Board of Education meeting on Thursday, November 14.

  • Mrs. Deborah Callery (District Office)
  • Ms. Megan Morreale (6th grade ELA teacher at Knox)
  • Ms. Amy Solar (teaching assistant at Pleasant Avenue)

The ABCD Award is given out by the Board of Education as a way to recognize staff members who go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty each and every day to give back to our school community and make sure our students feel safe, secure, and loved – and above all else, provide them with the very best educational opportunities and experiences.

MRS. DEBORAH CALLERY serves as the first point of contact for anyone coming into the District Office. She is always cheerful and pleasant, treating everyone she encounters with the utmost kindness and respect. Deb works as a “go between”, wearing many hats and helping in various capacities. She goes out of her way to assist parents, staff members and retirees with any concerns they may have, doing whatever she can to help. When Mrs. Callery promises you she will get back to you with information, you can absolutely rely on her following through. Each and every day, Mrs. Callery is in a positive mood and a joy to be around, and, in all ways possible, she goes Above and Beyond the Call of Duty to assist everyone she can in any way they need.

MS. MEGAN MORREALE teaches sixth grade English Language Arts at Knox, where she has created a warm and welcoming classroom for her students. She goes out of her way to create lasting relationships with each student she comes in contact with, taking time to listen and provide needed support. Parents appreciate that she keeps them informed  as to how their children are progressing with their studies. Students appreciate that Ms. Morreale goes the extra mile every day to help them learn new things in ways that are fun and engaging. In addition, she spends her free time at student sporting events, cheering them on both inside and outside of the classroom. With every single thing she does for her students, Ms. Morreale always goes Above and Beyond the Call of Duty.

MS. AMY SOLAR initially began her career with the Greater Johnstown School District  as a teacher aide in the Special Education Department and has transitioned to a teaching assistant position at Pleasant Avenue Elementary School. Parents say she has formed close bonds with her students and makes it a point to continue to check in with those who have moved on to other buildings. They appreciate the kindness and support she provides to their children and note that they can tell she loves what she does, which makes her excel at it. Thank you to Ms. Solar for going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty in caring for each and every Johnstown student you engage with.
