Dear Johnstown High School Families,
Welcome back to the 2023-24 school year. I hope that you were able to find some relaxing time this summer! Administration, teachers, and staff have worked very hard to prepare for the upcoming school year. We are so thrilled for our students to return to school on Wednesday, Sept. 6th, 2023.
The school day begins at 7:45AM and doors will open for students at 7:35AM. Student entrances will be:
- 8th through 10th grade walkers, bikers and students dropped off will enter through the main lobby doors in the front circle off of Pearl St.
- 11th & 12th grade walkers, bikers, drivers and students dropped off will enter through the Johnstown Performing Arts Center doors in the parking lot off of Pearl St. Student parking will be moved back to the original student parking lot to the left of Wright Drive. This is due to universal start time and Warren St. bussing.
- Bus students will enter through the doors off of the bus loop on Wright Drive.
The last assigned class of the day ends at 2:13 PM. Students should leave school premises at their dismissal time unless they are required to stay after school for academic support or after school activities. There will be a 9th period from 2:15-2:45 for academic support. Teachers can use this time to require students to stay for needed help. For bus students, there will be a late bus if they are using this time for academic purposes.
Schedules for students will be available on the Schooltool portal by September 1st. Any concerns with schedules should be addressed through email to a school counselor (A-K-Mr. Blacha and L-Z Mrs. LaCoppola). If you are unable to access it, please contact the main office at 518-762-4661. Schedules will also be available on the first day of classes.
Students are required to use their lockers and school issued locks. Backpacks shall remain in student lockers. Students have school issued locks to lock their lockers.
All students are provided with a chromebook. For those students who turned them in for the summer, they will be distributed on the first day of school during homeroom. Those students who did not turn in their device at the end of the school year will not be issued a new one and should report on the first day of school with their school issued chromebook.
Understanding school expectations and policies are important for a successful experience at JHS. Important information such as our attendance policy, student handbook and academic eligibility can be found on www.johnstownschools.org. Other critical information can be found there as well, such as, the Dignity for All Students Act, the Codes of Conduct and Title IX. Please visit the district website regularly for important updates.
In closing, I am very excited to get the school year started. Orientation for 9th graders and new students will be on Tuesday, August 29th and Open House will be on Wednesday, October 18th. If you have any concerns prior to that, feel free to contact me or the faculty at any time.
Sincerely yours,
Scott M. Hale
